Jewish outreach organization opens chapter to serve Hall, Forsyth, Lumpkin counties

Chabad-Lubavitch, a Jewish outreach organization, has opened a chapter in Forsyth County to serve the Jewish community of the area, and plans to open a new  Hebrew school.

Chabad of Forsyth will serve Forsyth, Hall and Lumpkin counties.

“We plan to offer a full network of Jewish life – including Jewish education for all ages, congregational prayer, social services and support for life cycle events,” said Rabbi Levi Mentz.

That includes the opening of new Hebrew school on August 21, called JUDA.

"It's the type of Hebrew school where kids are going to be loving it. They're going to be begging mom and dad: 'Can we go?'" said Mentz in a phone interview.

A meet and greet social event is planned for June 12 at the facility in conjunction with the Jewish holiday of Shavuot.

Chabad of Forsyth will host a "Build a Torah" workshop for children to celebrate the event. Adults may attend a Ten Commandments service followed by a reception.

“Jews moving to these flourishing North Georgia neighborhoods can rest assured that they will have access to a vibrant Jewish community beyond the Atlanta city limits,” said Mentz.

Chabad has approximately 4,000 centers worldwide, and is headquartered in Brooklyn.
