By AccessWDUN staff

IMS Gear Georgia, Inc. Tuesday announced its new Apprenticeship Program with Lanier Technical College.

The U.S. Department. of Labor-registered program enables apprentices who are chosen for the program to learn alongside master craftsmen and to jump-start careers with the multi-national, German-based corporation.  It involves active efforts and partnerships with the Technical College System of Georgia, Lanier Technical College, the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, the German American Chambers of Commerce, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Apprenticeship USA, and Hall County Schools.

The four-year program offers a compensation and benefits package to the new apprentices.  The apprenticeship includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job learning at IMS Gear Georgia Inc.’s Gainesville plant, and related classroom instruction provided by Lanier Tech.  At the completion of the apprenticeship program, the apprentices will receive a Mechatronics Journeyman card from the labor department and an Associates Degree in Industrial Systems Technology from Lanier Tech.

The President of IMS Gear Georgia, Inc., Greg Vitek, says today’s world is in need of highly skilled employees, and that the apprenticeship benefits everyone.  The focus of the apprenticeship is Mechatronics, a multidisciplinary field that includes a combination of systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering.

IMS Gear is a manufacturer for the automotive industry and primarily does injection molding, metal machining and assembly.  One of the company’s products is found in the automatic window motors in most vehicles.

The company's Bill Eckert will act as lead mentor for the first four apprentices: Seth Frye, Christian Johnson, Chad Sitzwohl, and Travis Swafford.
