Park in North Gwinnett to get new soccer complex, other amenities

A new soccer complex is on the way for Rock Springs Park in Lawrenceville, just east of the Interstate 85/985 merge.

Gwinnett County commissioners approved a $5.9 million construction contract with Astra Group, Inc. Tuesday to build the new facility along with a play ground with a shelter, dog park, extension of the existing trail and new entrance at the intersection of Old Peachtree Road and Collins Hill Road, according to a news release.

The funding comes from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) approved by voters in 2009.

The 113-acre park first opened in 2006.
