Rochester downs G-Braves, 7-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings rode the pitching of starter Andrew Albers to a 7-1 win over the Gwinnett Braves Wednesday night in game three of the four-game series at Frontier Field.
 
Albers (W, 1-0) allowed just three hits and one walk, going the distance to earn his first win of the year. He yielded only one run to the G-Braves and struck out six.
 
The Red Wings (18-16) got behind Albers early by plating two runs in the bottom of the first off Gwinnett starter Kanekoa Texeira (L, 1-2). Byron Buxton led off the game with an infield single and moved to second on a bunt-single by Max Kepler. Kennys Vargas followed by hitting a grounder to short, which Ozzie Albies threw over the head of Blake Lalli at first, allowing Buxton to score. Buck Britton picked up an RBI single to center to cap the inning.
 
Gwinnett (16-18) cut into the lead in the top of the fourth when Emilio Bonifacio led off with a single to center, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Adonis Garcia.
 
Rochester broke the game open in the sixth against reliever Joel De La Cruz. Stephen Wickens drew a leadoff walk and scored from first on a double by Buxton. After a walk to James Beresford, Kepler smacked a triple to right, putting the Red Wings up 5-1. Kepler raced home on a sacrifice fly by Vargas later in the inning to put the hosts up 6-1.
 
Rochester added its final run in the bottom of the seventh off Brandon Cunniff as Wickens hit into a double play with the bases loaded, scoring Adam Walker from third.
 
Thrust into a spot start, Texeira pitched tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits. He walked three and struck out two, pitching after Atlanta recalled righty Williams Perez earlier in the day to start against Philadelphia. De La Cruz worked 1.1 innings, yielding four runs on two hits and two walks, Cunniff allowed a run on one hit and two walks and David Peterson pitched a scoreless eighth, registering a strikeout.
 
Garcia led the G-Braves' offense with a 2-for-3 night with one RBI. Bonifacio had the other hit for Gwinnett.
 
For the Red Wings, Britton, Buxton and Kepler each went 2-for-4 and all three had an RBI. Buxton and Kepler each scored twice.
 
The G-Braves and Red Wings wrap up the four-game series Thursday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. Righty Tyrell Jenkins (2-2, 2.76) will start for Gwinnett against right-hander David Martinez (1-2, 4.80) for Rochester. Tony Schiavone has the call of the action beginning at 1:05 p.m. on 97.7 FM.
