The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will conduct counseling workshops for veterans GDOL career centers in Cornelia and Toccoa next week.
The first will be held Wednesday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the GDOL’s Habersham Career Center located at 215 Hodges St. in Cornelia. On Thursday, April 28, a second workshop will be held at 2 p.m. at the Toccoa Career Center’s conference room located at 37 Foreacre St.
Director of Communications for the Georgia Department of Labor, Sam Hall, says they partner with the VA often for these workshops that help veterans enter the civilian workforce.
"These workshops help veterans on two different levels. One, to help them with their job searches by helping with with resume critiquing, employment counseling and job referrals that the GDOL helps with. The rep. from the VA will consuct workshops on the counseling services available for things like PTSD, how to deal with alcohol and drug problems and even how to apply for VA benefits," said Hall.
Edward Robbins, a veterans outreach representative at the Lawrenceville VA Center, will conduct both workshops.
Veterans should bring valid identification, including military ID cards and driver’s licenses, along with their resumes to the workshops.
Hall says putting veterans to work has been a big emphasis for the GDOL in 2016.
"One of the first things that Comissioner Mark Butler made clear to all of our staff when he started was that making sure veterans get to work is a priority of the administration."
