DEMOREST — The Piedmont College baseball team dropped its opener to Emory University Friday evening, 11-0 in eight innings after the game was called due to rain. The Eagles' Hans Hansen pitched the complete game shutout giving up just six hits to the Lions.
Will Skidmore collected a pair of hits in the game going 2-for-4 with a hit to leadoff for the Lions but that was the only hit Piedmont had until the bottom of the fourth when Griffin Olson had a single.
The Eagles scored three in the second off starter Riley Presnell before the bullpen was called upon, but Emory added six more in the third to lead it 9-0 after the first three innings.
Bryan Whitcare had the best night for the pitching staff as he tossed three innings with no hits or runs allowed and struck out four batters. For the freshman, it marked his tenth appearance as he posts a 1.42 ERA as he had his longest outing of his career in this game.
