BOGART — North Hall clinched second place in Region 8-AAAA after taking a 12-3 victory over North Oconee Wednesday in the two teams' season finale.
Corbin Meeler pitched a complete-game, seven-hitter to get the win for the Trojans (18-8, 12-4 Region 8-AAAA) who responded after a gut-wrenching, 4-3 loss to the Titans (15-9, 12-4) on Monday at home. Meeler struck out five and walked none.
Four players had two hits, led by Drew Atha, who also added an RBI and scored three runs for the Trojans. Fowler Brooks, Jake Chester, and Clark Hill also had two hits for North Hall. Maddox Dill had a hit and two RBI.
North Oconee took a 1-0 lead in the first but North Hall answered with a run in the second and three in the third to grab the lead. The Trojans added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth before the Titans scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-2.
North Hall blew the game open with a five-run seventh, highlighted by John Mark Montgomery stealing home.
The Trojans are quaranteed a home playoff series in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs, which begin on April 29.
