The man accused of shooting two men, killing one, in Habersham County with a shotgun early Tuesday now faces additional charges.
Tommy Eric Savage, 56, of 1718 Garrison Road, now is charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault in a shooting incident reported just before 4 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.
Deputies were dispatched to the Garrison Road home about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday regarding a man who had been shot and was dead, according to a statement from Sheriff Joey Terrell. When deputies responded to the caller's home, also on Garrison Road, they learned a second male was shot during the incident at Savage's home.
The man at the second location, identified as Brandon Stephens, 26, had suffered a gunshot wound. Stephens reported his friend, Jesse Robert Looney, 33, of Demorest, was shot and believed dead at Savage's home, and that Savage was the person responsible.
Deputies secured a perimeter around Savage’s residence and requested activation of the Habersham County Special Response Team, Georgia State Patrol, GSP Aviation, GSP SWAT, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Bomb Disposal Unit, Terrell said by phone Wednesday.
After a lengthy SWAT response, Savage was taken into custody without incident.
Terrell said the GBI was asked to investigate the shooting, and that investigation is ongoing.
Officials confirm Looney died at the scene.
Looney and Stephens were accompanied by Amanda Jill Callahan, 37, according to the statement.
The weapon used in the incident was recovered and has been identified as a Mossberg shotgun.
A homemade explosive device was recovered from Looney's pocket and was disposed of by the GBI Bomb Unit, according to the statement.
Savage is incarcerated at the Habersham County Detention Center.
The written statement issued Wednesday afternoon took the place of what originally was anticipated to be a press conference.
No motive in the case has been released, and the investigation is continuing.
Savage's daughter, Celia Savage, was not involved in or tied to this incident, Terrell said, noting no bunkers were located on the property.
