DAHLONEGA — Dawson County pounded out 12 hits, including three each from Palmer Sapp and Austin Young, in taking an 8-2 win over Lumpkin County Tuesday in a huge Region 7-AAA game for both teams.
Yound also had four RBI for the Tigers.
The Tigers (17-7, 11-5 Region 7-AAA) are fighting for second place with West Hall (16-8, 10-6) which beat Banks County 5-1 on Tuesday.
Noah Davis got the win for Dawson County on the mound going the distance and allowing just five hits while striking out six.
Julio Romero took the loss for the Indians (11-12, 6-10) allowing 10 hits and seven runs in four innings of work.
Dawson County took a 1-0 lead in the first and then extended the lead to 4-0 in the third. After Lumpkin County cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third, the Tigers blew the game open with three more in the fifth.
Sebastin Dun and T.J. Rider had two hits and one RBI each for Lumpkin County.
The two teams will play a season-ending doubleheader on Friday in Dawsonville.
