JEFFERSON — The Jefferson baseball team moved within one win of clinching the Region 8-AAA title Tuesday night with an 11-3 win over Elbert County
Taylor Wilkes got the win on the mound despite five Jefferson errors scattering three hits in six innings and allowing three unearned runs.
Hunter Thompson had three hits and three RBI to lead the Jefferson (17-6, 12-4 Region 8-AAA) offense. Joshua Hutch also three hits and Wilkes and Zack Boobas each had two hits for the Dragons. Boobas and Chaz Evans had two RBI apiece
Elbert County (15-10, 8-8) led 1-0 after the first inning but the Dragons responded with four in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Thompson. The Blue Devils cut it to 4-2 in the second but Jefferson added runs in the second and fourth to take a 6-2 lead.
The Blue Devils trimmed the lead to 6-3 in the fifth and the Dragons blew the game open with five runs in the sixth,getting RBI Kasen Rainey, Justin Cole, Evans, Will Breese, and Wilkes in the inning.
The two teams will close out the regular on Thursday with a doubleheader in Elberton.
