WINDER - An inmate at the Barrow County Detention Center died at a local hospital Monday, a day after being transported there from the jail, authorities said.
Deputies noticed what they termed as, "an inmate in distress," around 6:45 a.m. Sunday.
"Medical personnel on staff immediately started to assess the inmate and it was determined that medical units needed to be called so the inmate could receive medical treatment," Barrow County Sheriff's Captain Ryan Sears wrote in Tuesday morning news release.
Barrow County Emergency Services crews transported the inmate to a local hospital. The inmate was pronounced dead on Monday.
"The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been notified to conduct an investigation and there is no foul play suspected at this time," Sears added.
Authorities did not release the inmate's name or nature of the distress.
