Former Buford softball standout drafted into professional league

By AccessWDUN Staff

Former Buford softball standout Lexi Overstreet has been drafted by the Scrap Yard Dawgs, a National Pro Fastpitch team based in Woodlands, Texas. The current University of Tennessee senior was the 19th selection overall in the 2016 NPF draft held at the CMA Theatre in Nashville, Tenn.

The NPF College Draft has become a marquee event for the league, showcasing the current and future stars of an increasingly popular professional sport that is rapidly gaining fans across the country.

Overstreet is enjoying the best season of her college career, leading the Volunteers in home runs and slugging percentage. Overstreet left Buford after a remarkable high school career, leading the Lady Wolves to four straight state titles 2008-11. Overstreet still owns several batting records at Buford, including those in slugging percentage, RBI, homeruns, OBS, and total bases.

Overstreet played club ball for the East Cobb Bullets 18-Gold from 2009-2012. In 2010, she hit the game-winning homerun off of former Alabama pitcher Jackie Traina to win the ASA National Championship. Traina will be one of her new teammates on the Scrap Yard Dawgs team. Overstreet will also be reunited with former Tennessee star Madison Shipman, who is currently in her third year for the Scrap Yard Dawgs.
