LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN — In Piedmont's final USA South regular season contest of the year, the Lions were red hot against the Covenant Scots putting up 14 runs on 17 hits in a 14-7 victory. The game was tied entering the seventh inning but Piedmont powered ahead with three runs in the seventh and four more in the ninth.
Piedmont set the tone early with four runs in the top of the first including a home run by Griffin Olson, his first of his career, with a 3-run shot putting the Lions up 3-0, and Evan Gresham tacked on another run with a double in the frame. The Scots tied the game in the bottom of the second as it was 4-4 after two innings.
The game was again tied at seven heading in to the seventh when Piedmont put up a three spot with three runs on four hits in the frame. The Lions scored another four on six hits and an error in the ninth to put the game away.
Piedmont was led by Gresham who recorded four hits in the contest while Olson had a team-high four RBI on two hits. Allen Tokarz picked up the win in relief tossing five innings of shutout baseball while also tying his career-best with six strikeouts. Tokarz leads the team with a 2.30 ERA now and is second in strikeouts with 37.
