OAKWOOD — West Hall jumped into fourth place in Region 7-AAA after sweeping a crucial doubleheader over Fannin County Saturday at Spartans Field.

The wins for the Spartans (10-7, 4-5 Region 7-AAA) -- 5-4 in Game 1 and 14-2 in five innings in Game 2 -- snapped a four-game losing streak that had left them in sixth place.

Charlie Cochran got the win in the first game going six innings scattering five hits and fanning seven. At the plate, Brian Newman and Jeffery Jenkins each had two hits and Merrit Gazaway had a hit and two RBI for West Hall.

In Game 2, Jenkins went the distance allowing six hits and two runs while striking out six.

Cole Wilson paced the Spartans at the plate with two hits, including a three-run home run in the deciding fifth inning. Tanner Ahmad and Gazaway each had two hits and one RBI for West Hall. Jenkins had a hit and two RBI for West Hall.

The Spartans now have a chance to climb back into the race for second place. They next will begin a huge three-game series with Dawson County on Tuesday in Dawsonville. The two teams will then play a doubleheader in Oakwood next Friday.

Dawson County (12- 6-3) is coming off a tough sweep at the hands of Class AAA No. 2 Franklin County and leads both Lumpkin County and West Hall by two games in the standings.

West Hall then will open a series against Lumpkin County the following week.
