Girls soccer: Buford rallies past North Hall in battle of top 10 teams

GAINESVILLE — Class AAAA No. 6 Buford got a pair of second half goals to hold off No. 10 North Hall, 3-2, Tuesday in a battle for first place in Region 8-AAAA in girls soccer action at The Brickyard.

The Lady Wolves (9-2, 5-0 Region 8-AAAA) battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 first half deficits on a pair of Katie Estrada goals. The Lady Trojans (6-4, 3-1) led 2-1 at halftime but could not hold on in the second half.

North Hall took a 1-0 lead on Estrada's first goal but Brie Smith tied the game with 15 minutes left in the first half off a pass from Elexa Bahr. Estrada scored again five minutes later to give North Hall a 2-1 halftime lead.

It stayed that way until Smith scored her second goal of the game with 19 minutes left in the game. Ambria Shutts scored off an assist from Sydney McCullough with 15 minutes left for the game-winner.

North Hall next will play host to Monroe Area next Tuesday in another 8-AAAA contest. Buford will travel to Stephens County on Thursday in an 8-AAAA battle.
