ATLANTA — North Georgia women's basketball players Kelsey Hutchins and Cierra Jackson were tabbed as Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American (Honorable Mention) selections as announced Monday evening by the association office.
Hutchins capped her junior season by earning Peach Belt Conference 1st team All-Conference honors and D2CCA All-Region distinction after leading the Nighthawks in scoring at 18.9 points per game. The Lawrenceville native ranked second in the PBC in scoring and pulled down 6.6 rebounds per game. She ended the season by scoring in double figures in 27 consecutive games.
Jackson averaged a double-double with 12.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per contest. Her 11.4 rebounds per game was tops in the PBC and ranks seventh in all of NCAA Division II. Jackson totaled 16 double-doubles on the year and crested the 1,000-point career plateau in her final home game.
The duo becomes the 18th different student-athlete to garner All-American status in UNG women's basketball program history.
The WBCA honor also marks the fifth consecutive year that a Nighthawk has landed on the association's year-end honor roll and the first time that two players have been listed in the same year.
Kiana Johnson of Virginia Union University was named the 2016 WBCA National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Player of the Year.
The All-American team was selected by a vote of the selection committee. The committee is composed of one representative from each of the nine geographical regions and a chairperson.
