Smoke from a "prescribed burn" in Habersham County today could penetrate Hall and other neighboring counties, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission.
The Commission said in a news release the burn is being conducted by trained practitioners to reduce hazardous forest fire fuels and improve wildlife habitat and should be completed by 6:00 tonight.
Earlier this week, the U.S. Forest Service announced plans for separate prescribed burns in Union and Rabun counties, and smoke from those fires was reported as far south as Habersham County last night.
