Georgia Mountains YMCA expands summer camp options

By AccessWDUN Staff

Officials with Georgia Mountains YMCA announced recently that they plan to expand their offerings when it comes to camp options for the Summer of 2016.

Georgia Mountains YMCA, which serves 12 counties in the region, will hold summer camps in more locations and also offer more options than their traditional camps, according to a media release from the Y.

“Summer of 2016 is gearing up to be the Best Summer Ever. The YMCA is offering new weekly themes, sports and specialty camps, as well as revamped teen programs. We have also added new camp site locations throughout North Georgia. All of these changes and new additions are designed to give the kids in our community their Best Summer Ever and I am so excited to get our Summer Adventure started here at the Georgia Mountains YMCA," said Gwendolyn Hatcher, Association Childcare Director at the Georgia Mountains YMCA.

YMCA Summer Camp provides youth ages 5- 15 (specific ages vary by location) with supervised activities to teach them core values, conflict resolution and leadership skills. Campers will have opportunities to make new friends, build self-confidence, and learn the value of teamwork. Each camp offering includes a variety of activities, songs, games, crafts, science, reading, swimming, field trips, and more. Each group will also get to experience outdoor activities utilizing some of the many state parks in the area. Activities are designed to be age appropriate for each of the age groups in camp. The camp staff also has many activities that can be used during rainy-day occasions.

In addition to Traditional Camp, for those campers that are looking for specific areas of interest, there are also Sports Camps (Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, and more) and Specialty Camps (Art, Cooking, Star Wars, and more), as well as Teen and Leaders In Training (L.I.T.) Camps. These programs are offered at select camp locations each week.

Registration for YMCA Summer Camp at the Georgia Mountains YMCA is now open and this year there are four locations across Hall and White Counties. Summer Camp is available at the J. A. Walters Family YMCA, Flowery Branch Elementary School, Lakewood Baptist Church (dropoff/pick-up location only) and the White County Family YMCA.
