UPDATE: Deputies capture escaped Banks County inmate

It took almost 24 hours but a Banks County Jail escapee is back behind bars.

Paul Dylan Gross, 23, was captured just before 6 p.m. Friday in the area of Trout Lane off Grove Level Road.

"We received a phone call from a citizen in reference to a male subject matching his description running through a residential yard located on Trout Lane," said Sgt. Carissa McFaddin, spokeswoman for Banks County Sheriff's Office. "Our units then responded quickly, set up a tight perimeter and deployed K-9 units onto the ground."

Those K-9 units located a fresh track, leading to the capture of Gross.

Gross fled the recreation area of the jail in Homer about 6:55 p.m. Thursday.

Banks County deputies, with assistance from Georgia State Patrol Aviation and other agencies worked through the night and all day Friday to capture the escapee.

"We're very thankful for the many law enforcement agencies that assisted with this search — GSP Aviation, Hall County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Madison County Sheriff's Office and Franklin County Sheriff's Office, along with Lee Arrendale [State Prison] K-9 Unit," McFaddin said.

Gross originally was being held on charges of burglary, theft by receiving, and obstruction.
