Dunahoo picks up Democratic opposition for legislative seat

By AccessWDUN Staff

As qualifying continues across the state for a third day, State Representative Emory Dunahoo of Gainesville has picked up opposition for his District 30 seat in the State House.

Michelle Jones of Flowery Branch announced her candidacy in a press release Monday and then filed qualifying paperwork with the Secretary of State's office Tuesday.

Jones, a Democrat, said she is a married mother of three who decided to run for office because she is tired of the community not having an active voice in the Georgia legislature.

"We've had enough gridlock in the legislature, that is under the stranglehold of lobbyists, influence peddlers, and ideologues. It's time that we elected representatives that represented all of the people, rather than a handful of special interest donors. New leadership from Hall County is needed to get Georgia working, learning, and moving in the 21st century," Jones said in her press statement.

Dunahoo is a Republican who has held the District 30 post since December 2011.
