ATHENS — The Georgia Bulldogs will be the No. 6 seed for next week's Southeastern Conference Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. The Bulldogs defeated Alabama, 70-63, in Saturday's regular-season finale to improve to 17-12 overall and 10-8 in the SEC.
The Bulldogs' will open SEC Tournament play on Thursday against No. 11 seed Mississippi State in the second game of the evening session. No. 7 seed Ole Miss will face No. 10 seed Alabama in the first game on Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET. Georgia's game will begin 25 minutes after the conclusion of that contest.
Saturday's victory also secured a third consecutive winning season in SEC play for the Bulldogs. Georgia has posted three straight winning league campaigns only one other time – from 1994-95 through 1996-97. Over the past four seasons, the Bulldogs have recorded their most SEC victories over two-year (23), three-year (32) and four-year (42) periods.
Earlier this season on Feb. 13, Georgia defeated Mississippi State 66-57 in Starkville behind a career-high 25 points from Yante Maten and a season-high 21 points from Charles Mann. Georgia is now 56-53 all-time against Mississippi State, including a 10-2 mark in SEC Tournament matchups. UGA and MSU last met in the first round of the 2012 SEC Tourney, with Georgia earning a 71-61 victory.
