MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia College scored nine runs in the seventh inning as they defeated the No. 16 University of North Georgia baseball team 11-4 Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard in the first inning with three singles and a sacrifice bunt.
UNG tied it up in the fourth when Steven Tomlinson hit his second homer of the series to tie the game 1-1.
Georgia College answered in the fifth as Dylan Cook hit a leadoff home run to retake the lead 2-1.
The Nighthawks tied the game again in the sixth when Conner Corbitt got his first RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly that scored Trevor Sams.
In the seventh, the Bobcats sent 14 batters to the plate. Tanner Giesel led off the inning with a solo homer. Four of the nine runs in the inning for the Bobcats crossed on bases-loaded walks. The scoring ended with a two-RBI single by Brandon Benson.
North Georgia added two in the eighth, highlighted by a Corbitt RBI single to score Sams.
NOTES
- UNG falls to 11-6 and 4-4 in Peach Belt play. Georgia College takes over fifth place in the PBC and improves to 9-7 and 5-3 in conference.
- Cameron Busby (3-2) earned the win for the Bobcats in 1.2 innings of relief. Chris Cobb (1-1) received the loss after giving up two runs in two innings.
- Steven Bower got the start for UNG, going three innings and striking out four.
- Sam Tidaback led the way at the plate for the Nighthawks, going 2-for-4. Corbitt went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
