YOUNG HARRIS — The No. 20 University of North Georgia men's tennis team pushed its season-opening winning streak to six matches with an 8-1 Peach Belt Conference road win at Young Harris on Saturday' afternoon. The UNG women came up on the short end of a 5-4 decision to the Mountain Lions snapping their program-record unblemished start.
In the men's match, North Georgia was victorious in all three doubles lines and sealed the conference victory with straight set wins in No. 2 through No. 6 singles.
In the tightly-contested women's match, UNG took two of three doubles lines, but the Mountain Lions rallied late to win four of six singles matched including a trio of three-set decisions in which North Georgia held a one-set lead.
The men improve to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in league play while the Nighthawk women fall to 5-1, 0-1 PBC. The men's six-match winning streak sets a new program benchmark for best start to a season, bettering the previous record of five set in 2013-14.
