AUGUSTA — All good things must eventually come to an end, and the West Hall girls improbable run through the Class AAA playoffs ran out of steam Friday night against Jackson (Atlanta) in the quarterfinal round at Augusta University.
The Lady Spartans got another tremendous effort from sophomore Anna Mckendree (32 points) but it wasn’t enough as they fell 65-53 to the Lady Jaguars.
Despite the loss, Lady Spartans (21-9) made their deepest run in the playoffs since advancing to the Class AAA title game in 1999. Mckendree turned heads in the playoffs, scoring 106 points (35.3 ppg) in the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Jackson (29-1) next will face Beach, which was a 51-46 winner over Kendrick in the other quarterfinal matchup, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Augusta University looking for a spot in the championship game.
