Gwinnett County courts offer Leap Day wedding ceremonies

By Shelby Ladanyi
Leap Day rolls around only once every four years, making for a unique day for special events. In Gwinnett County, the probate and magistrate courts are offering couples free wedding ceremonies on Monday, February 29, but there are a couple of things to consider.

The no-charge ceremonies will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville, according to a press release from the courts. The special wedding events will be co-hosted by Magistrate Kristina Hammer Blum and Probate Court Judge Christopher Baller.

Court officials said couples who are looking to take advantage of this unique opportunity will need to obtain a valid marriage license from the Gwinnett County Probate Court. All marriages licenses must be secured before the ceremony.

All ceremonies are free of charge and no appointment is needed. However, if a couple does need to make an appointment for a specific time, they may do so, and the ceremony will be performed if scheduling allows.
