More than just the presidential race is at stake Tuesday in parts of northeast Georgia

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Some northeast Georgians will find more than just the presidential hopefuls on the ballot when they go to the polls Tuesday.  Voters in Banks, Jackson, Franklin and Elbert counties, for instance, will be asked to vote on special sales tax issues, as well.

In Banks County, a referendum on extension of a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) will be held.  Meanwhile, in Jackson County, both a SPLOST and an ESPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) are to be vote on.  Both are also proposed extensions of existing levies.  In Franklin and Elbert, voters will be asked whether they want to extend an ESPLOST for each county.

In Hall County, as in most other places in the region, only the presidential primaries will be on the ballot.

Every polling place in the county will be open Tuesday from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., according to Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee.  However, Sosebee pointed out that there are a couple of changes in locations since the November elections last year.

"Those voters who voted at the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (precinct in South Hall), will return back the Prince of Peace (Catholic Church) in Flowery Branch...on March 1st.  Also, the voters who voted at the (Gainesville) Civic Center in November, 2015, now vote at the First Baptist church on Green Street in Gainesville."

Sosebee added voters should check their voter registration cards to determine where they should to to vote, noting that this is considered a countywide election, so, residents of municipalities in the county, such as Gainesville, Oakwood, and Lula, should vote at their countywide-designated polling place, not where they would vote in a city election.

Sosebee is predicting a 47 percent turnout.

She said Friday early/advance voting in the county topped 6,000.
