GAINESVILLE — Region 8-AA had two teams advance Wednesday in the first round of the Class AA boys state playoffs.
Union County got 21 points from Crawford Colwelland Chase Shook added 15 and Lawson Baenninger 11 for the Panthers in a 56-51 win over Bowden. Rabun County also advanced with a 74-48 rout of Chattahoochee County.
Riverside Military Academy's run in the Class AA state playoffs, however, never got started.
The Eagles fell 50-40 to Temple at home.
Juwan Thompson paced the Eagles with 16 points. Davis Short added 15 points for Riverside Military.
It was just the third ever trip to the state tournament for Riverside.The Eagles finished the season 14-10 and as Region 8-AA runners-up.
