Class A: Lakeview teams to face 8-A foes in first round; Commerce girls traveling to Greenville

GAINESVILLE — Lakeview Academy basketball learned of its first round Class A Private tournament opponents on Wednesday -- and their state playoff contests look a lot like an extension of the Region 8-A tournament.

The Lakeview boys will take on 8-A runner-up Hebron Christian -- for the fourth time this season -- while the Lady Lions will battle region foe George Walton for the third time. Lakeview has won all seven contests combined this season.

Meanwhile, the Commerce girls will travel to face Greenville in the first round of the Class A Public playoffs after finishing 11th in the GHSA's Class A Power Ratings, which are used to determine playoff teams and seeding. The Lady Tigers (17-7) will face sixth-seeded Greenville.

Lakeview, meanwhile, will host both games in a doubleheader, the girls tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Lions (24-4) are coming off their first region title since 2008, while the Lady Lions (22-6) claimed their first region crown since 2005 this past weekend.
