The USA South Athletic Conference released the second Player of the Week listing for the baseball season, and Piedmont swept the rookie awards with Brady Ballstadt earning USA South Rookie of the Week while Matt Vonderschmidt took USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week. The honor is the first of their career for both Ballstadt and Vonderschmidt.
The Lions were a perfect 3-0 last weekend in their trip to the Lone Star state as Vonderschmidt picked up a pair of wins in relief pitching over the weekend. The freshman pitcher from Suwanee, Georgia is now 3-0 this season with his three victories coming in the Lions first three wins of the season. Vonderschmidt currently posts a 1.69 ERA through four appearances tossing 5.1 innings.
Ballstadt has started each contest for the Lions as the only freshman to appear in the lineup this season. Ballstadt has picked up four hits and five runs this year while being walked five times and striking out just once.
The USA South Athletic Conference announces its weekly honor roll each Monday and at least half of the teams in a sport must have competed within the previous week for honors to be awarded.
