TIGER — Rabun County rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to beat Riverside Military Academy 63-60 to take the Region 8-AA title Saturday night.
The win netted Rabun's boys program its first ever region championship.
The Wildcats trailed 33-21 at halftime but outscored the Eagles 42-27 in the second half.
Rabun County tied game on a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left and then got the game-winning trey with 8 seconds left. A Javon Thompson 3-point attempt at the buzzer for Riverside to tie rimmed out.
Thompson had a huge game for the Eagles with 31 points on 12-of-13 shooting and hitting 5-of-7 free throws for the game.
Davis Short added 11 points for Riverside.
In other action at the Region 8-AA tournament, Rabun County knocked off Union County to capture the girls title. The Social Circle girls defeated Washington-Wilkes in consolation game to take third place.
The Union County boys defeated Greene County in the third place game.
