Nighthawk ace Courtney Poole has been named the Peach Belt Conference AstroTurf Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Poole collected four wins and a save in UNG's five games at the Gulf Coast Invitational last weekend.
The Watkinsville native helped North Georgia get back on track, recording a shutout against No. 18 Alabama-Huntsville and taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning against West Alabama. Poole struck out 14 of a possible 15 in the five-inning run-rule victory over UWA. Overall, Poole allowed just two earned runs in 25.0 innings pitched, striking out 42 while only allowing three walks.
The Nighthawks welcome Charleston and Lindenwood to Dahlonega for the UNG Loyal Blue Classic, which will serve as the home opener for Mike Davenport's squad. North Georgia's first game of the weekend is set for a 2 p.m., start on Saturday against Lindenwood.
