The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the primary investigation of an officer-involved shooting in Buford on Christmas Eve.
GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said in a press release that the incident unfolded at 6:58 p.m. on Saturday when two officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call on Castleberry Drive. Officers entered the residence and found Stephan Richardson, 23, wielding a knife.
During the confrontation, officers fired their weapons striking Richardson. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where he is still receiving treatment," Miles wrote.
The officers were not injured in the incident.
There is no word on whether there were other people in the residence.
Miles said when the GBI investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office for review.
