Lakeview Academy ends first semester with two state championship titles

By AccessWDUN staff

This year several Lakeview seniors can add “four-time state champions” to their list of high school accomplishments.

The school’s theatre group again took home the top spot at the State One-Act Play Competition for Class A – Private Schools, marking a fourth consecutive state title, and senior Samantha Simonton won first-place overall female in the state skeet shooting competition for the fourth year in a row.

This year's one-act play competition win was extra special for four Lakeview seniors, Christopher Jue, Tre Gober, Jackson Pratt and Jack Eubanks. The group has performed together in all four championship productions, and Pratt was recognized with this year’s Class A State Best Actor Award.

Pratt says the group has been able to support and encourage each other through the years as they have moved from being part of the ensemble to more prominent roles.

“We all realize how special it is not only to win four years in a row, but also to do it together as classmates and friends,” Pratt said.

Simonton is also wrapping up her time at Lakeview with four state championship titles in skeet shooting, and this summer will aim to earn a spot on the 2020 U.S. Olympic team.  With a life-long interest in shooting, Simonton only began skeet shooting when she joined Lakeview’s team as a freshman. She said she never dreamed her interest in shooting would lead her down this path.
