A Gainesville man is facing charges for allegedly tying a dog to train tracks in the area of White Sulphur Road and leaving it to be hit by an on-coming train.
Gerardo Damian Rosas is charged with a felony count of aggravated animal curelty.
"There was evidence that the dog had been purposefully tied to the tracks, which ultimately led to his death," said Mike Ledford, director of Hall County Animal Services, in a statement.
"This was an egregious act of cruelty against a defenseless animal, and our department works tirelessly to hold those responsible for such acts accountable."
Damian Rosas was arrested on December 1. At the time, Ledford declined to elaborate on the charge, saying the case was, "still very much an open investigation."
