The Buford man wanted by police for allegedly bilking an Auburn man out of $31,000 has been arrested, police said Monday.
At about 12:20 p.m. Monday, Gwinnett County Police tweeted that Jack Oviedo, 25, had been arrested.
Authorities identified Oviedo as the suspect in the case on Friday, saying at the time that he may have fled the state.
He allegedly convinced the victim to wire $31,400 to a BB&T account. The victim wired the money on November 3 with promises he would receive delivery of a 2013 Infinity QX56 from an out of state dealer in following week. The SUV never arrived, and the alleged seller stopped communication, according to police.
Investigators were able to trace the money back to a bank account opened under a false identity. Last week, police released bank surveillance photos of a man withdrawing some of the money.
After several news outlets published the photos, including AccessWDUN, police got a tip identifying Oviedo as the suspect.
He had been wanted on a felony theft by taking charge.
There's no word yet on circumstances surrounding Oviedo's arrest.
