CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell women's basketball team defeated Columbia International, 59-36, behind a defensive performance that saw the Bears hold the Rams to five and seven points in the second and third quarters, respectively. With the win, the Bears break the record for consecutive home wins with the sixth win in a row in the Bear Cave.
After a slow start that saw the Rams jump out to a 6-1 lead, TMU came back with a vengeance, scoring 12 of the next 18 points to take a one-point lead into the second quarter.
Then, the defense picked up for TMU. The Bears outscored CIU, 32-12, in the middle two quarters to build up a lead that could not be overcome by the Rams. Ashleigh Stanley helped pace the team, scoring eight points while pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out four assists in the contest.
Anna Murr led all scorers with 15 points on another great shooting night from beyond the arc (5-11). Quinlan Hughes added a double-double of 11 points and 12 boards, and Ariana Sanders contributed 10 points to the cause.
