Boys basketball: Dawson County holds off Lumpkin County in 7-AAA

DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County ran out to a big halftime and then held off a furious second half rally to beat Lumpkin County 58-55 in a key boys Region 7-AAA contest.

The Tigers (4-5, 1-1 Region 7-AAA) jumped to a 19-14 lead after the 1st quarter and extended it to 39-30 by halftime behind freshman Campbell Reed's four first half 3-pointers.

Lumpkin County (4-6, 1-2) outscored Dawson County 13-6 in the third quarter to trim the lead to 45-43 heading into the fourth quarter. The game was nip-and-tuck in the fourth quarter with the Tigers holding on for the victory.

Dawson County was led by Campbell Reed with 12 points. Cullen Reed added 11 and Joseph Cronan chipped in 10 for the Tigers.

Lumpkin County was paced by Zach Pulley with 18 points. Jacob Zarate added 13 for the Indians.

Dawson County returns to region play Friday traveling to Fannin County.

Lumpkin County will travel Chestatee on Friday in a non-region game.
