Every year in October, Wrigley Associates across the U.S. participate in Mars Volunteer Program (MVP), a month-long, global effort that brings together thousands of associates to better their communities. The employees of the Wrigley Gainesville Factory this year participated in a food drive and a coat collection campaign to benefit North Georgia charities.
A total of 100 Gainesville associates participated in the MVP food drive, collecting an estimated 600 lbs. of food for the Georgia Food Bank Association. A company spokesperson said associates also volunteered their time to coordinate, set up and maintain the collection facility.
In addition, Dwight Wellborn in the Quality Assurance Department at the Wrigley Gainesville location coordinated the One Warm Coat Drive, an effort he has spearheaded for the last six years. More than 200 associates participated and collected 250 coats.
Company officials said in 2016, Wrigley U.S. will spend near 2,000 hours across the country volunteering for a variety of causes – from hand packing oral care kits for school children, to giving kids a safe place to trick-or-treat, to raising funds to fight breast cancer.
