Authorities probing death of 18-year-old man in Cornelia

CORNELIA -- City, county and state authorities are investigating the death of a man near Cornelia Elementary School Saturday night. 

Cornelia police and others responded to a reported gunshot wound in the area shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday. 

In a written statement issued Sunday afternoon, Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire confirmed there is an open investigation into the death of an 18-year-old male that occurred at a location identified only as "within the city limits of Cornelia" Saturday night. 

"No further details are available at this time pending further investigation through the Habersham County Coroner's Office, Cornelia Police Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation," McEntire's statement concludes.
