Piedmont College names new campus police chief

A law enforcement professional who has served in several departments within Habersham County has been named chief of the Piedmont College campus police force.

J. Marie Griffin-Taylor will take over for interim chief Dick Martin on December 5, according to a media release from Piedmont.  Martin will continue to work part-time in the department.

"I am both honored and excited to become a member of the Piedmont College family," she told AccessWDUN.

Griffin-Taylor earned a bachelor's in criminal justice at Columbus State University and a master's in public administration from Walden University.

"We are glad that Officer Griffin-Taylor has agreed to join us here at Piedmont. I am sure her experience in police work and in administration will be a plus for the college," Ken Jones, Vice President for Administration and Finance at Piedmont said.

Griffin-Taylor has previously served as a deputy and school resource officer with the Habersham County Sheriff's Office.  She has also worked as an officer at the Mt. Airy and Clarkesville police departments and the Habersham County school system.
