Hawks' minor-league arena will cost $20-$40 million to build

By The Associated Press

COLLEGE PARK (AP) — A suburban Atlanta city manager says an arena for the new NBA Development League team will cost from $20-$40 million to build.

College Park city manager Terrance Moore tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/2fyPPPX ) on Monday the final cost estimates should be available early next year. The D-League team will play at a 3,500-seat arena to be built adjacent to the Georgia International Convention Center.

The cost of the project and how it will be funded were not revealed, but the Hawks said they will be tenants in a city-owned facility.

Moore says the Hawks would pay rent starting at $5,000 per game.

The new team will begin play in the 2019-20 season. The team expects the play about 36 games in the arena, which will be located only eight mile from Phillips Arena.
