ELLENWOOD — Union County’s playoff run ended quickly Saturday afternoon in a 63-17 loss to Cedar Grove in the Class AAA first round.
The Panthers (8-3) trailed just 7-3 midway through the first quarter after a 22-yard field by Brian Smith.
It was all Saints until the fourth quarter.
Cedar Grove (9-2) scored 56 unanswered points. The Saints led 20-3 after the first quarter and 49-3 at halftime. They pushed the lead to 63-3 heading into the fourth quarter.
Union County scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers have advanced to the playoffs for the past four seasons but are still looking for their first-ever playoff win.
