The Georgia Public Library System has begun supplying assistive technology devices to public libraries, and the Braselton Library offers a series of these for visually-impaired patrons.
“Public libraries have long assisted people with what was called “Talking Books” or audio-recordings of books and magazines,” says Braselton’s library manager, Lori Hayes. “The new technology devices add a new dimension to these original services.”
A MagniLinkS video magnifier, a Mobilux Digital Touch portable magnifying device and a MagniLink Voice reading machine are now available.
“The Braselton Rotary Club made a generous donation of a reading magnifier several years ago, and we’re pleased to offer the equipment to vision-impaired patrons or their caregivers,” says Hayes, “and salute the Georgia Public and Piedmont Regional Library systems for partnering and including patrons with print impairments. The collaborative goal for accessible equipment is to exceed the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.”
