Gainesville School Board takes first steps in search for new superintendent

By B.J. Williams
The Gainesville City School Board has interviewed two search firms as board members begin to look for a new superintendent.

Board Chair Dr. Delores Diaz said the board interviewed representatives with the Georgia School Board Association and King-Cooper at a called meeting on Thursday, November 10 at the Gainesville Civic Center. The plan right now is to vote on one of the firms at the board's November 28 meeting.

Diaz said the timetable to find and select a superintendent is not exact.

"If we start the process immediately, applicants can submit their applications over the winter holidays, we can interview probably in early February and make our selection at the end of February or early March." Diaz said in an email.

Current Superintendent Dr. Wanda Creel announced in September she would step down from the post.
