Defending champ Westminster too much for North Hall

By AccessWDUN Staff

ATLANTA — In a battle of two of the state's top running backs in 2016, Westminster's Zay Malcome put on a impressive display Friday night in leading the Wildcats to a dominating 49-18 win over North Hall in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

Malcome racked up 270 yards and scored on five consecutive Wildcats possessions, getting scoring runs of 4, 43, 50, 29, and 9 yards to help the Wildcats pull away after the first quarter.

North Hall's Kyle Bacus, who finished the regular season eighth in the state with 1,554 yards, had 123 yards in his final high school game. He finished with 1,677 yards, which is the fourth-best season in school history.

Westminster, the defending Class AAA state champion, took a quick 14-0 lead but the Trojans (6-5) trimmed the lead to 14-6 on a Jack Brown (14 car. 115 yards, 2 TDs) score. That would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Brown scored all three North Hall touchdowns. He added a 41-yard touchdown run and a 33-yard touchdown reception later in the game.
