JEFFERSON — Colby Wood showed on Friday that he's more than ready for the playoffs.
The Jefferson junior running back torched Pickens for 219 yards rushing -- 180 of that in the first half -- and three touchdowns to help lead the Dragons to a comfortable 59-21 first round victory at Memorial Stadium.
Zack Boobas also scored two rushing touchowns, while Colby Clark tossed a scoring strike to Sammy Elegreet for 20 yards, as the Dragons (10-1) marched on to the second round, where they will play host to West Laurens.
Zac Corbin also ripped off a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter, as Jefferson raced out to a 17-0 lead in the opening period -- Wood's first touchdown plunge (1 yard) and a 38-yard field goal from Hayden Kilgore setting the Dragons on their way.
Boobas added a 7-yard second quarter scoring run before Pickens responded with a kickoff return for a score. Yet Wood settled any thoughts of a comeback with his second touchdown -- a 25-yard scamper -- to make it 31-7 with 7:16 left in the half. Clark's touchdown pass finished off the half with a 38-7 Jefferson lead.
Bryce Moore also added a late rushing touchdown for the Dragons, as they began to look toward their fifth straight "Sweet 16" appearance.
