By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

One person was killed and State Route 53 in Jackson County was shut down for over an hour after a single-vehicle crash near Braselton Sunday evening.

Sergeant Ronald Calvert with the Georgia State Patrol Post 32 in Athens said a Mazda Miata was heading north when it lost control while negotiating a curve just after 6:30 p.m., hit a culvert and overturned near the intersection of Curk Roberts Road. The driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Calvert said the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.
