Three men remained in the Hall County Jail Tuesday morning, charged in connected with an armed robbery and shooting in Gainesville on Saturday.
Officers responded to the area of Harrison Square Apartments at roughly 2:30 p.m. Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the 29-year-old male victim had been put into a vehicle and was on the way to the hospital when others in the vehicle flagged down first responders on Athens Street near West Ridge Road.
The victim, identified by the police department's daily incident bulletin as Marquez Sanchez Cantrell, was put into an ambulance and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition, according to Holbrook.
"Officers were able to get a description of a vehicle. That was a white Jeep Grand Cherokee that had left the scene," Holbrook said.
He said investigators, through witness accounts, were able to identify two of the suspects and make those arrests shortly after the crime.
"Working with the Hall County Sheriff's Office in the case, they were arrested in the Harmony Church Road area in the vehicle," Holbrook added.
Evan Edsel Dorsey, 26, and Richard Brian Sosebee, 41, are each charged with aggravated battery and armed robbery. Sosebee is additionally charged with possession of a firearm during a crime and possession of a gun by a felon.
Holbrook said both men have Gainesville addresses but possibly have ties to the Jackson County area.
The third arrest in the case came early this week. After further investigation, Holbrook said officers obtained warrants for Jonathan William Owens, 27, of the Gillsville area. He was booked into the Hall County Jail Monday afternoon, also charged with aggravated battery and armed robbery.
"At this time, it's believed that the investigators have all those responsible in custody, however, charges may be forthcoming against these individuals as far as other charges related to this case," Holbrook said.
Holbrook stressed that the victim and suspects knew one another and that the incident was possibly drug-related.
"It is important that individuals know that this was not a random crime. These were known parties to one another."
Holbrook said the victim remained in stable condition at last check.
