DAWSONVILLE — Lumpkin County’s potent ground attack finally met its match Friday night in the Dawson County defense.

One week after piling up over 400 yards rushing in a win over Fannin County, the Indians were held to just 134 yards on the ground in a 54-8 loss to the Tigers.

The win for Dawson County (7-1, 5-0 Region 7-AAA) sets up a one-game showdown for the region title next week at Tiger Stadium against Class AAA No. 1 Greater Atlanta Christian. The Tigers are seeking to repeat as 7-AAA champions.

Dawson County led 30-0 at halftime on touchdowns by three different players. Payton Myers scored on a 24-yard run, quarterback Coey Watson connected with Nick Murphy on a 28-yard pass, and Nasser Clark scored on a 4-yard run. Myers added a second score from 5-yards out.

The Tigers extended their lead to 37-0 on a Watson to Kolten Brumbelow 44-yard touchdown pass. After a Lumpkin County fumble on the ensuing drive, Peyton Allen booted a 31-yard field to extended the lead to 40-0 with 3:45 left in the third quarter.

The Indians (4-5, 2-3) got their only points on a Cole White touchdown with 45 seconds remaining in the third quarter and a two-point PAT, to trail 40-8.
Brumbelow recorded his third kickoff return for a touchdown on the season going 99-yards to make it a 47-8 lead.
