While Summer is behind us, road-related projects continue to start with at least two firing up in northeast Georgia this month.
Work to widen Georgia 13 from Sawnee Avenue in Gwinnett County to Ga. 347/Lanier Islands Parkway in Hall County will begin with clearing trees from right-of-way.
A fact sheet from the Georgia Department of Transportation listed the construction start date as Sunday, October 16.
"The project will update the two lane roadway into a four lane divided highway with a 20 foot raised median, four foot bike lanes, curb and gutter, and five foot sidewalks," Georgia Department of Transportation District One Communications Officer Katie Strickland said.
The contractor, E.R. Snell, is required to be finished with the $16.34 million project by the end of June in 2020.
Monday through Thursday work that requires lane closures will be allowed between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Evening and overnight work is permitted between 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Friday afternoon and evening work is prohibited on nights Buford High School has a home football game.
In Banks County, crews are expected to close the bridge on Georgia 63 over the Middle Fork Broad River beginning Tuesday.
"Proposed is a new 250 foot long by 40 foot wide concrete bridge over Middle Fork Broad River that will be reconstructed at the current location," Strickland said. "The new bridge will be raised and drainage will be extended."
The closure northeast of Homer is expected to last until mid-July of next year. Officials said a detour will be in place.
